Explore the Old Town
Exploring Hoi An ancient town is one of the best things to do in Hoi An. You can also happily spend a few hours with your kids strolling around the meandering streets, popping into art and souvenir shops or making a stop off for a cold beer or Vietnamese Coffee in the lovely little courtyard restaurants that line the streets.
Hiring a cyclo for a half-hour or hour turn around the town one of the most fun ways to take in the sights of Hoi An if your children are too small to walk too far. You will usually easily find a willing cyclo driver sitting in the shade on the corner near the Japanese Bridge or you could also book through a tour company. Before setting off, make sure you negotiate!
Boat Ride on Thu Bon River
You can still get out on the water in Hoi An with kids if you do not have time to dedicate a full day to discover the farming and fishing communities. You can also just take a stroll along the river near An Hoi Bridge on Bach Dang Street and negotiate with the many boat owners there to take you for a ride up the Thu Bon River although there are many boat trips ranging from one hour to half-day trips offered by several companies. You should be able to take in some of the atmosphere of the rustic riverside communities, although, of course, your destination is in the hands of your helmsman.
